Logging On

Welcome to my website!
How can I help you?"
The first of the messages. There I was playing around on the computer, when all of a sudden, the screen went blank, and this writing came up.
More writing . . .
"Hi Sam! How's it going?"
How's what going? I wondered. In any case, how do they know my name? I'd better look at the manual.
"Life and all that. What do you make of it?"
Life!? I don't believe this.
It sounded like an educational program - the sort Dad thought I'd be using on the computer when he got it at Christmas. Electronic Learning Interface - that's what it's called. ELI for short. I just use it for typing up my homework - and for games . . .
"Is anybody there?"
A computer virus! That must be it. A hacker! A hacker getting at my programs, throwing up stupid messages . . .
"Hello! Are these messages getting through? Answer: Y/N."
I'd better get Dad. Oh, no - he's not home tonight
. . . What should I do? Play along with the hacker for a bit? See if I can find out who he is?
I clicked on the "Y" button for "yes."
"Good. So what's on your mind? Why call me up?"
